Science Popularization - The Influence of Yarn Strength on Mat Fabric

Release time:2025-09-02

Pads need to withstand various stresses during operation, and high-strength yarns are the foundation to cope with these stresses.

1. Tensile and deformation resistance

The cushion fabric woven from high-strength yarn is not easily stretched or deformed when subjected to tensile forces in the longitudinal (warp) and transverse (weft) directions of the machine. This ensures the dimensional stability of the padding on the production line, preventing inaccurate product dimensions or surface wrinkles caused by stretching. Low strength yarn padding is prone to "creep" (i.e. gradually elongating under sustained stress), leading to dimensional instability, affecting production processes, and even potentially causing production line downtime.

2. Tear resistance and burst resistance

During the laying, rolling, and use of padding, it is often subjected to sharp object hooks or local impacts. High strength yarn can effectively prevent the expansion of cracks. When a small tear appears on the cushion, the high-strength yarn requires greater force to be pulled apart, making the tear less likely to expand and extending the service life of the cushion. Once a low strength yarn breaks, it will quickly tear under stress, causing extensive damage to the padding and forcing it to be replaced in advance.

3. Wear resistance

During the transmission process, the pad will experience repeated friction with the mechanical guide roller, the product itself, and other pads. High strength yarn has tightly bonded fibers, which can better resist fiber wear and detachment caused by friction. This means that the surface of the cushion is less prone to pilling and pilling, and can maintain a smooth surface. Low strength yarns wear out quickly and the surface is prone to becoming rough.

4. Fatigue resistance

Industrial bedding requires repeated cycles of high-temperature vulcanization, cooling, winding, unwinding, and other processes. High strength yarns have better resistance to repeated bending and stress fatigue. Low strength yarns experience rapid attenuation of strength after multiple cycles, and may suddenly break, causing production interruptions and product scrap.
