Classification and selection guide for industrial filter fabrics

Release time:2024-10-12

In modern industrial production and environmental protection, industrial filter fabrics, as porous filter media, have various classification methods. This article will provide a detailed classification based on materials, weaving methods, and characteristics, and explore how to correctly select and use industrial filter fabrics to improve production efficiency and ensure product quality.

1、 Classified by Material

Natural fibers

Cotton: As one of the oldest textile materials, it has good water absorption and breathability, making it suitable for occasions that do not require high-precision filtration.

Hemp: sturdy and durable, commonly used in environments with high filtration requirements.

Other natural polymers, such as protein fibers, acetate fibers, etc., have specific chemical stability and biocompatibility, making them suitable for certain special filtration needs.

Chemical fiber

Polyester (PET): high strength, corrosion resistance, good heat resistance (up to 120 ℃), suitable for multiple fields such as chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing. Polyester filter cloth is divided into two types: long fiber and short fiber. Long fiber has a smooth surface, good wear resistance, fast water leakage, and easy cleaning; The short fiber structure is short and hairy, the fabric is dense, and the particle retention performance is good.

Nylon (PA): Good elasticity, able to withstand large stretches without breaking, excellent wear resistance, but poor light resistance, prone to discoloration and brittleness, not suitable for long-term exposure to sunlight. Nylon filter cloth is also divided into long fiber and short fiber, suitable for various industrial filtration scenarios.

Polypropylene (PP): resistant to temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius, acid and alkali resistant (pH value approximately 2-12), suitable for filtration in acidic and alkaline environments.

Polypropylene: divided into two types: short fiber and long fiber. Short fiber polypropylene filter cloth has better performance in powder filtration and pressure filtration, while long fiber has good breathability.

Vinylon: Chemical name polyvinyl alcohol, excellent wear resistance, durability 1-2 times that of pure cotton, good alkali resistance, but low temperature resistance (shrinkage above 100 ℃), and not acid resistant, suitable for industries that require strong alkali treatment.

Nylon: also known as nylon 66, has high strength, good wear resistance, and can withstand strong alkali and weak acid treatment. However, it will change color and become brittle when exposed to sunlight for a long time, and has potential risks to human health. It is not suitable for the pharmaceutical and food processing fields.

Inorganic fibers

Glass fiber: It has excellent high temperature resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, and is suitable for filtration in high temperature and corrosive environments.

Metal wire: It also has excellent high temperature resistance and chemical corrosion resistance, suitable for filtration in high temperature and corrosive environments.

Special material

Microporous membrane: used for precision filtration, with extremely high filtration accuracy and stability.

Non woven fabric: with excellent breathability, suitable for food grade filtration and certain special industrial applications.

2、 Classified by weaving method

Monofilament filter cloth

Features: uniform pore size, high strength, easy to peel off, easy to clean, but slightly poor particle retention ability.

Types: Belt filter cloth, vertical leaf filter cloth, drum filter cloth, etc.

Applicable fields: chemical industry, sludge dewatering, power plant desulfurization, potassium fertilizer, phosphoric acid, metallurgy, etc.

Multifilament filter cloth

Features: High stability, anti stretch, easy to peel off, strong particle retention ability.

Type: Vertical filter cloth, etc.

Applicable fields: chemical industry, mining, non-ferrous metals, metallurgy, etc.

3、 Classified by special functions

High temperature resistant filter cloth

Such as fiberglass filter cloth, polyimide filter cloth, etc.: suitable for filtration in high temperature environments.

Acid and alkali resistant filter cloth

Such as polypropylene filter cloth, polytetrafluoroethylene filter cloth, etc.: suitable for filtration in acidic and alkaline environments.

Precision filter cloth

Such as microporous membrane filter cloth: It has extremely high filtration accuracy and is suitable for occasions that require high-precision filtration.

There are various classification methods for industrial filter fabrics, and the specific selection should be comprehensively considered based on the actual working environment, filtration requirements, and material characteristics. Choosing and using industrial filter fabrics correctly is of great significance for improving production efficiency and ensuring product quality. By understanding industrial filter fabrics with different materials, weaving methods, and special functions, enterprises can better meet production needs and achieve sustainable development.
