Za Science Popularization - Curtain Fabric

Release time:2024-08-14

Curtain fabric is a skeleton fabric for tires, made by weaving strong warp threads with medium and fine single yarns as weft. The warp threads are tightly arranged, while the weft yarns are sparsely arranged, resembling a curtain. Curtain fabric serves as a skeleton for tires and other rubber products, enabling them to withstand enormous pressure, impact loads, and intense vibrations. It is an important material affecting tire performance and lifespan. The warp thread, also known as the curtain thread, bears the load, while the weft yarn fixes the position of the warp thread.

Types of curtain threads include cotton, viscose, nylon, steel, polypropylene, aramid, carbon fiber, PEN, etc.

Nylon curtain fabric is one of the main materials used inside tires for bearing weight and reinforcement. It is widely applicable in the rubber industry as a tire skeleton material, featuring high strength, high-temperature resistance, fatigue resistance, and impact resistance, especially suitable for bias ply truck tires, engineering tires, and aircraft tires.

Other types of curtain fabrics include:

Cotton curtain threads have low strength, requiring more layers of curtain fabric for tire manufacturing. Due to frictional heating during use and slow heat dissipation, their application is gradually decreasing.

High-strength viscose curtain threads have advantages such as fatigue resistance, heat resistance, and minimal tire deformation. However, since viscose threads are hygroscopic, it is necessary to protect the tire surface from cracks to prevent moisture absorption and strength reduction.

Polyester curtain threads are relatively high in strength, making the tire body resistant to impact and fatigue, with less temperature rise. However, they have a tendency to shrink when heated, making the tire body prone to deformation.

Steel curtain threads produce tire bodies with high strength, low rolling loss, impact resistance, and good wear resistance. However, they are rigid and can easily damage vehicle chassis components. Other materials include polyester and glass fiber curtain threads.

In the 1970s, aramid curtain threads (see aromatic polyamide fibers) emerged, offering high strength, high modulus, high-temperature resistance, and dimensional stability, suitable for tires with high performance requirements on engineering vehicles and aircraft.

A level A is considered first-grade, where cotton is divided into seven grades. According to the national standard for cotton grades, using second-grade raw cotton to make special cotton pads and first-grade cotton pads is considered high-quality cotton.

The national standard for cotton grades (GB1103-1999) divides cotton into seven grades from 1 to 7. Manufacturers follow the national combing cotton pad standard (GB18383-2001) to use second-grade raw cotton for special cotton pads and third-grade raw cotton for first-grade cotton pads.

Fourth-grade raw cotton is used for second-grade cotton pads... Seventh-grade raw cotton and below-grade cotton (light carded cotton, 1-1 cotton, recycled cotton, bleached cotton are not allowed for combing cotton pads), with first-grade raw cotton used for spinning high-count yarn for weaving. If manufacturers strictly adhere to national standards in production and the product quality is certified by the Yunnan Fiber Inspection Institute, it is considered reliable cotton, where special and first-grade cotton pads are considered high-quality cotton. Other grades are considered reliable cotton. What is the cloth on top of the wheel called? It's called a mud scraper.

This rubber strip is a unique invention by truck drivers, commonly known as a "mud scraper." As the name suggests, it is used to clean mud and other debris from the sidewalls of the tires. When the vehicle is moving, the rubber strip flicks out, pulling hard on the tire and cleaning the sidewall as it comes around.

The rubber strip is not permanently attached to the tire; it is best to wash it directly with tools by hand. In fact, anyone who has driven a truck knows that using a mud scraper for cleaning is virtually the perfect solution.
